one of my first more non-fiction, autobiographical reads!
this follows the author's retelling of the year following her husband's death and her daughter's battles with pneumonia and the constant hospital stays.
it's basically just a stream of consciousness and the growing paranoia and need to detach her own memories that have become intertwined with her deceased husband.
i think it does a really good job of showing how exactly didion's brain deconstructs her own process of grief through analysis and literature through the first person narrations of the book.
kinda just average overall, but it's a brilliant personal account of the grief suffered after the sudden death of a loved one.

What a beautiful novel.. Deeply personal.
“Let them become the photograph on the table.
Let them become the name on the trust accounts.
Let them go in the water.”

I don't believe there are books that everyone needs to read. But, the themes in this book (death, grief, sickness, family, marriage, parenting, ect) are so universal that I think anyone could get something out of reading this book. Definitely the best book about grief I've read.
