Hostage gave me chills and was impossible to put down. The writing is so good it doesn’t even feel like reading, it feels like living it

This is a book that could begin conversations about a multitude of topics social, political, and scholarly.  Its value lies more in those conversations than the book itself.

Okay, wow. I definitely couldn’t put this book down, so it succeeded on that front. I wanted to know how the story ended and was really compelled by Mina’s POV and the passenger stories. I did not care about Adam’s story after the first few chapters—it felt like he was just taking away from the main action of the plane and complaining that his small daughter doesn’t love him enough. At times it seemed that the author wanted to tell four different stories at once and was struggling to shoehorn things in there (Mina’s backstory + the hijacking + Adam’s plot line + Sophia’s family + the terrorist’s goals and identities) for the sake of being suspenseful. The end result was a little cluttered/confused.
