This was my second audiobook, and it was really well done. The first book I listened to had multiple voice actors because each chapter was told from a different character’s POV. It didn’t really work for me. This audiobook had two voice actors, one to read the Lucy sections and one to do the podcast bits. I wouldn’t have minded only one, I think, but having a female voice and a male voice helped make each section distinct and worked well.
The story itself also worked well. It was intriguing, intriguing enough that I stayed up past midnight to finish even though I had an early day at work the next morning. I say that even though I guessed the likely ending very early on. This shouldn’t necessarily be taken as a flaw in the book, though, since my penchant for knowing endings has long been a joke among friends who say I’m a narrative psychic.
I really liked the character of Lucy. She was darkly funny and flawed in ways that felt realistic. Even given that most of us will never find ourselves in even remotely similar circumstances, the way Lucy dealt with the circumstances was plausible. I also found all the male characters plausible, which may not reflect well on men as a whole, but as I read, I found myself saying, “That tracks,” quite a lot about the men in the book and also how the town at large responded to them.
All in all, if murder mysteries with flawed heroines who have dark humor are your bag, then you should definitely check this out.

I read this for book club. It had so many twists and turns, I really didn’t know who did it until the very end. The biggest criticism I have is that there were a lot of characters, and I sometimes had trouble remembering them if they weren’t front and center. But overall, it was an enjoyable page-turner.

A captivating and unique murder mystery!! The author created just enough suspicion for me to question the innocence of the main character, without ever being too certain one way or the other. The voice in her head was super cringey until context was added to it, and the kinky murder sex gave me the ick, but luckily that was brief. Otherwise a solid read, and I loved the audiobook for this!
