I love story wrapped in suspense drama. Who can resist? Carlin is running from a very bad situation. Even though she tries hard not to fall in love with the new town she runs to, she does. Along with the town she tries to resist the rugged cowboy Zeke. No such luck. He’s hot and he wants her.
Carlin tries to keep her secret and prepare to run again once the harsh winter breaks but once Zeke finds out why she’s running he wants to protect her like any good cowboy would.
This is such a good, steamy romance. I highly recommend it.

Woman on the run from a seriously creepy and dangerous stalker, who happens to be a cop. She runs and is almost killed by this man and goes into deep hiding on a ranch in Wyoming. There she has to learn to be a cook, maid, and hardest of all trust. Which is something any girl would want with Zeek being the man to trust. She burns food, messes up cakes and muddles along. But can't seem to ever let her guard down. The cowboys on this ranch aren't quick to quit on her.
This was my first LInda Howard read and I enjoyed the heck out of it. The narration was fabulous and the slow had me glued to my headphones ! It's a sweet romance with a twisted feck as the evil villain.

Audio via library. This is a good book, but nothing overly amazing. My library listed it as the first book in the series and it would have been an excellent start (a lot of “firsts” get bogged down in the world building) ~ unfortunately, it appears the authors didn’t continue it.
Carlin is running from a stalker, a man she briefly dated who also happens to be a tech-savvy cop. He finds her once and kills a friend who was wearing Carli’s coat, so Carli takes no chances. She lands in a small Wyoming town and eventually becomes cook/housekeeper on Zeke’s ranch.
This a slow burn that borders on boring at times. It takes 30%+ of the book before Carli even gets to the ranch. Then we spend a lot of time listening to Carli’s kitchen adventures. Carli & Zeke spend another 40% fighting their attraction. Then it’s purely sex (though they both acknowledge it’s more.). Then her stalker reappears and it’s a lackluster finale.
It’s alternating POV’s. Mostly Carli and Zeke, but we get Cat, Brad-the-stalker, and even a few from the previous housekeeper and two of the ranch hands.
It would have benefitted from a real epilogue ~ though I’m guessing that since the authors intended this to be a series, they expected to be sharing more of Carli & Zeke through those stories.

I wasn't expecting much from this story but I ended up loving it. It was a bit slow moving but the tension (both sexual and fear) were very believably built. I really liked Carlin and enjoyed reading from her perspective. Great story.

this is the first of linda howard's books that i've read that seems to be firmly planted in romance. and the first that i've read that has a co-author. it was a quick read, cleanly written. the love scenes were limited but nicely done. wouldn't say it was scorching, but hot enough!
