I’m gonna be honest. I don’t really know what’s happening anymore. My reason for the high rating is because the art still blows me away. The scale, detail, and sheer style of Tsutomu Nihei’s drawings is just mind-blowing.

I think this story buckles under the weight of an increasingly-complicated story with so many different angles and characters and governments with confusing acronyms (I couldn’t tell you what any of them stand for), which is a bummer because it started off on such solid footing.

I’m definitely still going to finish it, but 95% of that is literally because I wanna see what other pretty pictures he made for this book.

Really going off the rails now. Still digging it, but curious to see how we bring it all back (if at all).

As I’m getting further within the series, more and more I see the flaws. I’m unsure if I’m to continue reading or not, but nonetheless, the characters are beautifully drawn, though sometimes the basic body structure of the characters (specifically the female identified  body) is very plain and overused. You’d think in the future, the structure of gender would change and even look different, but the series hasn’t brought anything new to the table. With this I mean that everything is very boring, but I might give volume 5 another shot.

More synthetic humans zooming around a post-apocalyptic wasteland shooting zombies with large guns they pull from inexplicable places. Fun stuff, but as of volume four, I'm still not sure if there's no real plot to the thing or if I've just missed something along the way. It doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere.
