Really dark stuff from Kevin Smith. A good story when it's all said and done, but lots of demonology and the like. Far more spiritual content than I would have expected from a Green Arrow volume. A little slow to get off the ground, a little too dependent on other story arcs to be a truly stand-alone work, but overall still enjoyable.

I've seen a number of people with concerns that this book is accessible to readers who haven't already read a lot of DC and aren't very familiar with DC history and continuity. As someone who falls into those categories I very much disagree. Yes, there are several references to past events in the DC universe and in Green Arrow's history, but they aren't used in such a way that new readers will feel lost. As a matter of fact I'd argue the opposite; that it's a good book to start with because it introduces you to some DC history without overwhelming you. What's more many of the references have footnotes telling you exactly what issues of which titles the events happen in. So if something is mentioned that you find interesting you know exactly what book you need to pick up to read more about it. If for some reason you do feel lost (or are just curious) you can always do a quick Google search and quickly get an overview of whatever piece you feel you're missing. Overall I found it to be an enjoyable read and a good introduction for me, someone who hasn't read many comics, but knows they've liked the green arrow whenever he's shown up in other media.

This is a really great introduction to the character of Green Arrow, pulling in all different aspects of the mythology and characters I already know, putting him in context. He's basically Batman, but with fewer trust issues.
This is a LOT like Rebirth--both Green Lantern and Flash--though it comes before both. I enjoyed it!

Sooo my copy of this has a chunk that is repeating and im assuming a chunk that is missing. Overall great story, but there does seem to be some backstory that I wasn't aware of.

I grabbed this on a whim, too, because Kevin Smith is awesome. And he continued to be awesome. This is what I remember from when I used to read X-Men comics (same style, that is to say). He said, in the intro, that he made the comic book he would like to read, and it was really cool.
