Louise O’Neill has always been an amazing author to write about abuse and assault in a realistic but respectful way. Her latest novel did not disappoint. Her portrayal of a murder in this book engaged the reader and highlights both physical and emotional abuse. Fans of crime fiction will love this book.
Graphic: Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, and Murder
Moderate: Blood, Toxic relationship, Violence, Pregnancy, and Infidelity
Minor: Alcohol, Drug use, and Death of parent

This was dark and haunting with a beautiful writing style.
After the Silence explores domestic abuse, and all the forms it takes through the lens of a true crime documentary - though I wish there had been more of the documentary.
In 374 pages she manages to explore post-colonialism, domestic abuse, postpartum depression, systemic racism, and elitism. At no point did this ever feel like O’Neill was bashing you over the head, she used her craft to tell a story that was true to life while pointing out the issues in the world today.
As it stands the overall outcome was predictable but still a good read.
