4⭐️ thank you NETGalley for the chance to listen to the audiobook of A Dawn of Onyx. This books was very entertaining from very early on. The plot was interesting and kept me wanting to know what happens next. The tension and banter was very good between the main characters. The male main character is total touch her and you d*e! The ending was very good and has me excited for the release of book 2!
Good start to a new series. Intriguing. Easy world building.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
✨Fae, human, witch, dragon
✨Beginnings of a slow burn romance
✨Discovering the real history of her world
✨New found family mixed with betrayal
✨WILD ending!!!
I love the little bit of hidden identity we get at the beginning, and how Arwen slowly discovers that the history she’s been taught her whole life is not entirely true. She questions everything, but I love how curious and intelligent she is and the fact that she does not take everything at face value. Someone in our book club described this book as “I hate you/you’re my enemy… but then everything I thought I knew turns out to be wrong… and now I have feelings for you” and I think that sums it up perfectly.
I love her friendship with Mari and even Dagan, and ended the book sort of hating Halden and Ryder. Love love LOVE Kane. And who knew there would be a dragon in the story too?!
One of my fave new reads of the year.

This book was pretty good, the character development leaves a little to be desired. I had trouble connecting with the mood swings of the main character. And the trope of lying being the absolute worst betrayal she can imagine but like the world is ending outside? Maybe some perspective would be helpful. But it was enjoyable and entertaining! I'll read the next one when it comes out.
