It’s 2044 where most people nowadays spend their time in the OASIS, a virtual reality world, to escape the world’s problems like the energy crises and the shortage of food crisis. The OASIS isn’t just a game. It can actually replace the real world. For example there are many businesses in the OASIS since renting a space in the real world is much more expensive than inside the OASIS. Halliday the owner of the OASIS, a billionaire, dies and leaves his net worth including the OASIS as a prize for solving a puzzle inside the OASIS. The book tells the story of Wade Watts, an 18 year old trying to solve the puzzle to win the prize. The puzzle or the game isn’t easy and many players from all over the world are competing to win.

There was an excessive amount of references to the 1980s pop culture since the puzzle involves knowing all about that stuff. I honestly didn’t get 90% of the references. This book should be a delight for anyone obsessed with video games, movies from the 1980s. The book takes you through an adventures of how these players strive to finish the game first.

My favorite book this year (so far). Could've done without the romance, but an excellent read. I think it's going to make a really interesting/unique movie. In 2018. Halfway done with my goal of 36 books, so I'm definitely going to make it. Based on this rate, I should've definitely made my goal 50 books (though I originally thought that was too much).
