I didn’t like the undertones of this story and you could tell the author was trying really hard to make the reader feel at ease with the ‘borderline incest’ storyline of two people who grew up together getting together in the end. The society in this story is against them and throughout the story although the author doesn’t manage to change their mind they do start to paint them in a bad light, to make it seem like their views are irrelevant.

That being said the story building was good and the characters are suppose to build around the world that already exists through the story of Chaos League which is a story that the author is already building and it shows you the lives of people around them.

I am usually a sucker for Gannon's delightfully bonkers and morally very gray characters. I think I've read all her books, some repeatedly.
In this instance I just could not warm up to Thraex and Sasha as characters or their dynamic and found myself surface-reading or outright skimming. Maybe it's just my weirdly clogged reading dumpy head or just the fact that I miss the Consortium guys.
The author says the inspiration was partly the Southern Gothic which is probably one of my least favourite subgenres with all of its navel gazing and relentless angst.
The were still some very funny parts though and I did adore the miniature giraffe.
