“By a Thread” was given to me at my book club’s Spicy Themed Book Exchange this year. I loved the plot and I do love a “grumpy boss romantic comedy” as promised on the cover. Unfortunately I cannot recommend it because it is SO DAMN LONG. Which is exactly how I felt about the other Lucy Score book I read, “Things We Never Got Over”

I love the writing and her spice scenes are 🤌 perfection. But there’s so much plot and fluff around it that gets a little predictable and over the top. There was so much there I liked but I just find it hard to read a 500-page romance!

The plot was fun and I loved the characters. Ally gets hired my Dominic’s mom to work at their fashion magazine after Dominic gets her fired from her waitressing job. Obviously, they fall in love but since it’s 500 pages, SO MUCH other stuff happens.

If you LOVE romance, you will love this. But if you’re an occasional romance reader or are trying to get into it, I wouldn’t recommend. I’m going to start a petition for Lucy Score to write some shorter books!

Well, well, well, looks like BookTok didn't completely disappoint for once.
Yes, this book has its shortcomings, but I still really enjoyed Dominic and Ally's story. It was funny and entertaining, their banter was on point and they had fire chemistry.
Sometimes it felt like I was following some teenagers' story and not full-grown adults (Dominic is 44 and Ally is 39) so that annoyed me a little.

Lucy Score's writing is pretty addictive, I couldn't put my book down once I started it. And yes, I stayed up late trying to read as much as possible, which doesn't happen a lot.

Overall it was a pretty good read, and now I'm curious to read the author's other books.

By a Thread offered up some good banter between Ally and Dominic. I will say this book did not need to be 500+ pages long. I am on the fence with this book, I enjoyed parts but also this book didn’t deliver in the ways I thought it would.
