Spoilers ahead: Preston is one of my favorite authors. His writing is really easy to read and the plots are easy to get into. Same with this book. I got into the story right away.

The main plot line is a billionaire finding and exploring the original crash site at Roswell which led to the creation of Area 51. Apparently using modern equipment he was able to pinpoint the exact place of the crash. He then hires Nora and a whole team to excavate the site. The plot goes from there

The setup of the story takes up more than half the book and I thought the ending was too quick and simple compared to the setup. Some things were not well explained and didn't make sense. But mainly this felt like only 1/2 a book and a quick ending.

The ending makes it seem like there will be a continuation of the story, either regarding the incident or just Nora Kelly in general.

Real spoilers: The things that don't make sense include the fact that the original thing must have been taken away by the US Govt, didn't they know that? Also, it would have been common sense to think of the skip. Lastly the reaction of the secret agency was much too violent and didn't make sense.

What happened was that the government had dragged the alien stuff into a prohibited area built during the cold war and enlarged into a cave system. A whole new secret agency grew up around it to protect it. And when Nora's team easily got into the cave and discovered it, one of the agents decided to hit the destroy-everything button.

I received this ARC from Novel Suspects for my honest review

This was my first book written by Douglas Preston and it was amazing. I loved that it had action, drama, suspense, government cover ups and a little romance. This book was plot driven and it was fast paced with well developed characters. When I picked up this book I didn’t know it was book 3 in a series, however this book can be read as a stand-alone and you will still love it. I loved how the author used the area51 and government cover ups along with the love of solving a murder. I loved all the attention to details in this book. This won’t be my last book from Douglas Preston that is for sure.

I want to thank Novel Suspects for allowing me a chance to read this ARC.
