Meh. Aliens landing at Roswell? An overdone plot, in my opinion. Not as many archaeological details or forensic science as in previous books. They can do better.
4.5⭐
Another winner with the third Nora Kelly book! A highly entertaining and action-packed mystery surrounding an archaeological site from the 40s and UFOs!
In Diablo Mesa Nora reluctantly accepts a new archaeological project. Digging The Roswell site where a UFO crashed in 1947 is not what she wants on her resume. Skip, her brother has already joined to assist Noam Bitan the artifact curator. The project is funded by a young billionaire and founder of Icarus Space Systems, Lucas Tappan. Shortly after they started the team discovered two bodies at the site and a colleague, Special Agent Corrie Swanson was contacted.
I admit this was rather an unusual entry, but I loved it. Government cover-up, secret agency, and spies. I didn't know what to think nor did I predict how the story will unfold. This can be read as a standalone thriller. Highly recommend it if you enjoy a fast-paced plot, action, and well-developed characters with UFO storyline. A must read for Preston & Child fans!

I really really wanted to like this book. It has a lot going for it. I always prefer the Pendergast books that have a supernatural element, and this one somewhat delivers. And like all Lincoln and Child books, it moves at a breakneck pace. It also furthers the relationships within the lives of its two main characters - Nora Kelly and Corrie Swanson - but unfortunately that's where the book falls apart for me.
Archaeologist Nora Kelly is roped into investigating Roswell, New Mexico by an eccentric billionaire, who has also hired her brother Skip onto the expedition. Wanting to look out for her brother, Nora reluctantly agrees to work for said billionaire. Things are complicated when the expedition unearths a crime scene, necessitating Corrie's entry into the book. But then narratives decides Nora and said billionaire belong together . . . despite everything's that happened. This is frustrating for a number of reasons. The two don't share too much chemistry aside from one scene. She goes from hating him to loving him in an absurd amount of time. And perhaps most frustrating of all, her new billionaire beau can just solve all manner of professional problems facing Doctor Kelly, as he does in the book's conclusion.
So . . .yay?
Meanwhile, Swanson's portion of the book also features a new relationship - with Sheriff Watts from the previous book. But this feels earned. The two had some chemistry in the last book. For the most part, it feels earned - but therein lies another problem. Kelly and Swanson spend the majority of the book apart, and the narrative really doesn't do much building up their own relationship.
It's not all bad. Though the villains are cartoonishly evil government guys, the actual Roswell connection does end on a chilling note - something that could be play into future books. And maybe most of this book is just a set-up for future installments, but the whole billionaire boyfriend just didn't land for me.
Dangit, I miss Smithback.

Decent fast paced and engaging read, generally believable action and interesting concepts. Better than some previous books by these two.
OMG. This is an anxiety spike waiting to happen. Not a difficult read, it draws you in - by the throat - and doesn’t let go!
