Not my favorite ending, but the rest was just what I expected

enjoyable, roller coaster ride

A thoroughly enjoyable read! The authors weave facts and popular conspiracy theories into a narrative that makes you think. I can’t wait for the next edition of this series.

This was a cheesy "lets explain aliens" plot, was more boring than the other two books in the series, and the quality I praised for Old Bones (Book 1 in the series) about the authors getting back some of their groove of their earlier works has already slide back into shark-jumping, trope bingo territory.

But will I keep reading the series? Of course, these are still excellent fluffy filler thriller reads.

I gave it 4 stars because Preston and Child deliver a good story. The science fiction aspect here is harder to swallow than in the Pendergast books, however.

The idea was great but I got so bored listening to very technical science jargon at 32% in I gave up. Kudos for what was probably very thorough research but you need to remember that a lot of your reading audience isn’t going to have that level of understanding or interest in it. This is a great sci-fi story that transports you deep into the vast, arid dry lands of New Mexico in search of the truth: did alien lifeforms really land here so many years ago? Through misadventure, scientific study, and breaching government grounds, it was fun to find out how the authors planned to answer this question. And the partnership of the two FMCs always provides an interesting perspective through the lens of the FBI and archaeology.

The plot explodes in bursts of action that play like a cinematic reel in your head, filled with gunfire, bomb blasts, and sneaking into secretive compounds. It, of course, all culminates to the ultimate answer of what exactly has been hidden in the depths of the desert near Roswell. Reading this series never disappoints!

If I could give 6 stars, I would. History, syfy, adventure mystery all rolled into a perfect Nora Kelly story. No spoilers here.
