Phew. How emotionally intense this was… Some of the panels were close to bursting. I loved the art and the characters, and how Gengoroh Tagame handled them with subtlety, delicacy and humanism, while leaving the reader reeling.
This is story of growing up, finding yourself, coming out in a homophobic society and helping each other heal. “Our Colors” is full of courage and grace.
P.S. Find and read “My Brother’s Husband” by the same author, if you haven’t yet. Highly recommended as well :)

This book is a big nope. The unbalanced power dynamic between the café owner and Sora was so hard to read about. The story could have been wholesome if Sora’s school love interest (someone his age) was further developed, but from the moment Amamiya confesses his love to a sleeping kid on the street you could tell that this was going to go south. The author presents a predatory relationship as an innocent friendship. The 60-something Mr. Amamiya emotionally manipulates a high schooler using his “gay knowledge” to coax him closer in. Even with this glaring offense, there are a lot of plot holes that wouldn’t allow this to score well in my rating, hence 0.5 stars it is.

idk how to feel about this book...so i'm not going to rate it for now. tagame's work is so beautiful and elicits such deep feelings in me of nostalgia, regret, longing etc. that i've never felt before tbh when reading manga. however the themes in this book and the ending more specifically felt like such a strange end to an otherwise beautiful book. i will def reread but the pedophilia at the end and the theme of Mr. Amimaya knowing 0 gay ppl ever and being openly out felt super strange to me? i think it wasn't necessarily meant to be romantic but had this weird vibe of them being soulmates which i didnt rly buy. 5 stars without the end...and maybe like 3.5 with unfortunately :(
