Okay, I have some issues with the way this story is told. That being said, I will read the next book to see if it gets better. I've been surprised before.

The first point, and this is the point which is the most irritating to read, is that these women are supposedly in their 30's, but they read as if they come straight out of high school. It reads juvenile. Now if that was the case, and they were actually that young, fine. But they are not.

The second point is that I got a little tired of this whole 'not like other girls' with my 'black this black that, etc. etc.'. We get it. I don't need this to be repeated like 10 times in such a short novel. That, and the continuous 'folding of arms' of every man in this book. Good lord....

The murder plot is weak, the investigation part is weak, and there is next to no proper character development for Poppy. It's just 'average' (extremely repetitive descriptions of not like other girls) exchanges one word with the 'hunk' of the school, gets him interested in her (why?) and gets the mean treatment from 'Popular Girl TM'. That's exactly what made it juvenile.

It's a shame because a murder in a secluded place like this would've been a good match with my reading interests of cozy's. Isolation is a good trope, don't ruin it like this.

Southern Peach Pie and a dead guy by A. Gardner
This story starts out with Poppy, almost 30 and she's enrolling in a culinary school down South. The arrangement is you live at the location and work in the bakery shop.
She takes many classes and before she knows it she's being accused of setting the oven too high causing evacuation and fire dept shows up to put the fire out. She then is accused of killing a teacher.
She gathers the clue along with Cole. She lies with Bree who loves to bake. They follow the leads to the clues they have and end up at a farm where they learn the beginning of the school and traditions.
She heads back to Oregon for a break where someone follows her.....
Love just when you think the story is over you have 10 more chapters to go and you wonder why. Great read, keeps you on your toes. Excited to see who wins the end showoff of a favorite recipe to make.
Recipes are included at the end along with listing of author's other works.
Free from the author and this is my honest opinion.

This was a loveable and a rather enjoyable time. This was my first cozy and I must say I had a great time reading this. Can't wait to explore this genre more

This was gym reading for me, aka free or cheap on the Kindle. It was okay. I like a good cozy and bonus when it's set in Georgia since I live here. But it could have been set anywhere that's hot. The story was very short and even then, it could have ended about half way through. It felt like it kept going, wrapping up one thing, only to have something else come up that then had to be wrapped up, instead of stacking it all together and blending it well. The main character at ENTIRELY too much food for a thin frame to just have only gained 5lbs in a few months. And these people all acted like they were in their early twenties, but I think they were all in their mid 30s?

I have read some random stuff in my quest to read books from all 50 states without costing myself a fortune, but this one is probably the one I’ve disliked the most. There’s hardly a likeable character in it, the pacing is way off and so much of it is just so very, very random. Not for me at all.

Fun little cosy crime series starter about a former ballerina following her dream & starting over at pastry school after a career ending injury. Poppy's roommate Bree & classmate Cole are great friends who dive right into helping Poppy clear her name when she is suspected of theft and then when her accuser is murdered. One little quibble tho. I picked it cause the is a cat featured prominently on the cover & i was in the mood for a cosy crime featuring a kitty but there was NO CAT in it at all.

It was a cute story that I found on my Kindle. I thought the mystery ended a little too quickly, but it was an entertaining read at 3 in the morning.

This was strange to me. The mystery seemed to take awhile to start which is unusual for a cozy. Then once you thought it was starting it slowed down. Then when it really got into it, it seemed to come to a climax and the story seemed finished but then kept going. The last few chapters seem like an unexpected add-on like the author had a brain spasm and realized that another part of the story needed to be added. Then it kept going to finish off a side story within the original story. Poppy is a very likeable character but the story development just was strange to me. The main story wasn't bad, I just would have liked it more if it moved along differently.
