I have such a clear memory of the first time I read this book.

It was summer 2020 and I was still working in retail. I finished a shift and immediately went to my favourite cafe. I got an iced coffee and banana bread and settled in to read. I'd intended to only be there for a little while but I just couldn't put the book down.

Back then it was exactly what I needed. It gave me hope for finding love and for a future I'd never really allowed myself to imagine.

With just one read it became my favourite book of all time.

So, when I was looking for something to read this week and my fiancé suggested I re-read Conventionally Yours, I knew it was the right choice.

I've always related to Conrad and his story. This time more so than ever. I left this story with a new sense of hope this time around. That I do have the power to succeed. All I need is one more move.

This book is still my favourite book of all time. I cannot recommend it enough!! <3

📍Roadtrip
💕 Found Family
👍 Rivals to Lovers

Conrad and Alden have such a good rivals to lovers relationship.  They both play the card game Odyssey and have the opportunity to play in tournaments, something that is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of trip.  If they win it would help solve some of the problems in their lives.

The queer rep in this book was so nicely written, I loved how it was all normalized, and how there were so many queer characters.  The found family was everything.  And I have to mention how much I loved all the artwork throughout this book!

I love how well the characters worked together how the rivals became friends and then boyfriends.  The grumpy x sunshine trope fit their personalities so well.

I loved this book so much! I want to go and tell everybody to go read it. It’s so sweet, so cute, but at the same time so emotional and real. I don’t have the right words to explain it exactly. Just go read it! The anxiety rep was so good, the struggles that come with it, the frustration. And the illustrations are just too cute!!
