This novel is a captivating and intense mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. The characters are complex and well-developed, with their own personal struggles and demons that add depth to the story. The multiple perspectives provide a unique insight into the case, making it an intriguing read.
The writing is vivid and descriptive, allowing you to easily visualize the cold, isolated setting of the mountain town of Fraser, Colorado. The story unfolds at a steady pace, revealing secrets and twists that keep you guessing until the very end. The attention to detail is impressive and the accuracy to the 90's theme adds to the authenticity of the story.
The Fear of Winter is a raw and gritty crime novel that is sure to captivate any reader who enjoys a good mystery. The character development and attention to detail make it a memorable experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a well-written and engaging story. I look forward to reading more from S. C. Sterling in the future.

I won this book in a Storygraph giveaway. It was a quick read and quite enjoyable, but there wasn't enough character development.
Graphic: Death, Kidnapping, Child death, and Murder

Received this book as part of an author giveaway on StoryGraph. Wasn't familiar with the author prior to reading and was a solidly middle of the line read for me. Characters weren't particularly complex/developed through the novel, and characters weren't particularly compelling for me. I generally enjoy more complex and compelling characters, hence the lower rating for this novel. Having read many thrillers and mysteries, the plot didn't make up for the weaker character development from my perspective.
Do check CWs, especially around self-harm, addiction, and domestic abuse for those who may be impacted by these.

The Fear of Winter is a fast-paced crime thriller. We follow Tom, whose daughter is missing, and Marshall and Hannah, the private investigators Tom hired to find out what happened to her.
This book reads like an action movie. It kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen. The main characters were realistic and I felt for all of them as they were each dealing with something difficult in their lives. As they each work on trying to find out what happened to Megan, secrets are uncovered along the way. There's plenty of suspense, action, and a bit of gore.
If you like books where it feels like you're reading an action crime movie, then you will probably like this one.
Thank you to S.C. Sterling for a copy of this book I exchange for an honest review.
