It's all over the place. The FMC is kinda dumb and headstrong but not in a good way. Very childish writing and things just kinda happen for no reason. For something with a lot action described, it's very boring.

I thought this was a nice quick read.
Shadow and Cal made a good team and with her magic and his skills with weapons they were almost unstoppable.
True to the genre thought it was a bit predictable but it did not so my enjoyment of the story. Looking forward to book 2.

If you’re looking for a basic, trope-y YA fantasy-ish book that you can breeze through and not get super invested, this is it. I mean, it’s got everything; the “special”, powerful girl who doesn’t realize how powerful, or beautiful, she is, enemies to lovers extremely quickly and the classic “there’s only one room left at this inn and it only has one bed! What are we going to do?” I didn’t find the romance compelling or interesting at all, it was like someone flipped a switch and all of a sudden they went from hating each other to wanting to bone; I think they would actually be way more interesting as friends or mentor/mentee. If you’re into this kinda stuff or are just getting into YA fantasy, this book will do it for you, but if you’ve been reading YA fantasy for a while, you’ve read this book. I gave it two stars because despite the cliches and tropes and whatnot, I found myself getting sucked into the story and was able to finish it instead of DNFing. There’s also a huge “twist” at the end, but I thought it was pretty obvious from like, chapter 2 *shrug* I’ll probably still read the second when it comes out, I’m just curious as to how this jumble of a story will get wrapped up.

~Pros:
Interesting relationship dynamics
Interesting plotline, it got better towards the end though.
Unique ending!
~Cons:
Info dump towards the beginning that left me confused.
I didn't remember who each of the characters were expect for the protagonists and a few side characters
Would I recommend it? Maybe. This is very avarage for me and it didn't seem all that special.

“All the answers you seek are there, but only if you are willing to hear them,” Aunt Moriah always says.

I truly enjoyed this book! This was so beautiful and surprisingly especially towards the end! I am curious for the sequel! “The Queen’s Secret” is very intriguing to be found out! I hope others enjoy this book as much as me!

Aside from the cringey dialogue and based off vibes alone.

Bad writing(one perspective was in 3d and another in 1st person), no real motive to the storyline, lots of info dumps, all characters lack motive, bad setup

A completely different type of book for me but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
