So good. Proud to say I had the right suspect but Lodge managed to almost persuade me it was someone else at least a dozen times. You can definitely read these as standalones but they're way better read in order!
Graphic: Death, Eating disorder, Infidelity, Toxic relationship, Blood, Murder, and Toxic friendship
Moderate: Suicide and Stalking
Minor: Alcoholism, Child death, and Violence

This is my 3rd Jonah Sheens mystery (but 2nd in the series). Sheens feels a bit distanced from the reader; I feel like I know Juliette, one of the other police better. The focus in Lodge's stories is on the mystery, the victim, and the drama and trauma in their lives. This story focuses on a murder victim and her group of friends, as well always seen flashbacks of the victim in Lodge's mysteries. The victim sort of snaps at the end of her life but I didn't really feel like I understood why. I also am having trouble remembering characters' names, just a few days later, but the plot remains fairly entrenched in my brain. On the plus side, I was fooled by the identity of the killer, and I devour Lodge's mysteries in only one or two days. Very readable and entertaining.
