Woahhh how crazy. This was page turning and exciting but also incredibly dark. I liked how the different perspectives came closer together, revealing how close we are to the future. The conversations around using ai to replace human bodies and art were interesting both in the modern day narrative and 1819. Sometimes I found it difficult to keep up with lol hence the -.5

It is hard for me to write a review of this book. In some ways, I loved it and thought that it would make one of the few five star ratings for me this year, and in other ways I was deeply troubled by it.

I so wish that the author would’ve stayed away from attempting to provide perspectives on transgender issues, because the outcome is very problematic. I understand why it is there, I just wished that it would’ve been dealt with differently.

There are also elements of fat phobia that I really could’ve lived without.

However, the tone of the writing is just fantastic. I love Mary Shelley’s POV and the perspectives that she provide that really adds depth to the events taking place in Ry’s POV. It really adds layer and aspects that I just found delightful.

All in all, this is an interesting novel and with proper TWs in place, I do recommend reading it.

A playful celebration of Frankenstein and Winterson taking on the past, present and possible future of A.I. There's not much emotional depth here but it's fun and thought engaging.
