I love beautiful prose!

NIGHT SEA JOURNEY is as nearly a perfectly written novel as I have read in a long time. Paula Cappa's command of the English language makes it impossible to put this book down. I was captivated and mesmerized from the very first page.

I am not a religious person, neither by practice, nor by inclination, yet I am fascinated by religion from a purely academic perspective. I learned some interesting things about Catholicism, and the priesthood, that were heretofore unknown to me. There is so much that is contradictory in the dogma of the church. The questions of sin and repentance are argued around the all merciful nature of god and the rejection by god in favor of the fiery pit.

Central to this book are two very different priests, with two very different crises of faith, a female artist plagued by dreams that follow her into the living world, and her Jungian therapist. There is much that is surreal about NIGHT SEA JOURNEY that is superbly described by using the very names of the colors of oil paint.

Whether or not you are a fan of the supernatural, I very much enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates a work beautifully written and superbly crafted.

Sorry, no spoilers here. This is a work that deserves to be read without anyone telling the reader what is coming next. My recommendation is don't read the blurb, just read NIGHT SEA JOURNEY.

Anything with stories of a supernatural being will catch my attention, and this was a read that I am so glad I did not miss out on. Even more, there's some enchantment and romance tied in with this story that makes the premise even more inviting. The real-life and supernatural blend of stories made this one even better than I had imagined because it leaves that feeling that it could be realistic and we just don't know it yet. The detailed language and pace of the story painted a perfect picture and kept me reading far later into the night than I was prepared for. I love a good story that focuses on that strange space in between the dream world and the real world, and this book blurred the lines of both with complete perfection. I'm highly looking forward to checking out more from this author and seeing what other talents she has up her sleeves
