an amazing little weird book that feels huge, the world is fleshed out enough for it to feel expansive and real, but not so much that it feels like a fantasy and not a dystopia. the ending could've been teased better but it was good nonetheless. argentinians have a gift for writing honestly.

Read for a book club.
There are a lot of things I liked about this book. I thought the translations were provocative and it was a very unique read compared to other horror/thrillers I’ve read in the past. I think my favorite part about it was that it read both like a novel and like a non-fiction expose of the meat industry. The ending is also beautifully done to leave the reader contemplating long after the book is done, which is great.
My only complaint about the book is that it feels a little too far fetched for reality, mainly due to the existence of vegans and due to the fact that human and animal DNA is not very different so I fail to understand how it would impact ALL animals and not impact humans. But I’m also not sure what argument the author can give that would convince me so I don’t want to dock it too many points for that.
Overall, I found it to be an enjoyable read and less disturbing than expected after all the trigger warnings I saw before I started.

this is like the adult version of those short stories you had to read in middle/high school that haunt you for the rest of your life

I loved the ending. It made me want to start over from page one again. Nothing in this book is sacred, even when it pretends to be.
