my jaw is literally still dropped as I type this review. I cannot believe this book. It was so foul and disturbing and i feel so sick for enjoying reading books that are this fucked up. I love dystopian books and seeing how they root back to our current society. I think the scariest part of this book was the fact that I honestly could see something like this happening. I can imagine the government coming up with an extreme way to cope with overpopulation and inequality. I was so intrigued by our main character. I never felt like I fully knew him and that proved to be the case after that last page. My heart breaks for Jasmine. I was shocked that he did what he did with her. I hate myself for thinking his intentions were genuine. Really interesting though. The puppies also broke my heart. I hated hearing about what the teenagers did to them. Anyway very disturbing but i couldn’t stop reading.

This is one of the books that feels more spoken than written. The voice of the narrative feels haunted. Almost like it was being told to you over a cigarette and a glass of whiskey with the chill of the night air and a view of the smokestacks of the slaughterhouse in the distance. It's grim and unrelenting and absolutely tragic to read. Not much I would do to change this one, and I can tell you for certain I will NOT be reading this again. 8/10

Wow. This was tough, much tougher than I really thought it would be to read. I can't really recommend it to people, due to the content, but if you have a strong stomach and want to see through the eyes of someone who has to make horrific life decisions, go for it.
