There were a few excerpts I thought were well written and multifaceted. Otherwise this work came across as misogynistic and lacking meaningful nuance. The theme of government conspiracy was interesting though the characters were so dispicable, especially the protagonist, that it was confusing why there was anything humanizing and empathetic written about his story. I couldn't give less of a fuck that tragic things happened to him. He seemed to deserve it for his sins while the author wrote so many of his interactions with others in a way that seemed to be meant for the reader to relate to his anger. It fell flat and unsuccessful. 

When he tells his sister that she disgusts him, like yeah bro you too tf. Y'all are the same. And if that was an attempt to be cleverly meta, it failed.

I can’t give this book a bad rating because ultimately it hooked me. I was disturbed the entire time, but I couldn’t put the book down. That being said, the ending just reinforced the WTF feeling. I kinda wanna set this book on fire. I need therapy after this. Oml

Fucked up but in a good way. I really in enjoyed the themes this book covered and shedding light on issues this world faces by changing animals to humans and making humans animals.

In this deeply disturbing dystopian novel, a virus has resulted in all animals being slaughtered resulting in cannibalism being legal and accepted. Marcos works in a processing plant, and we follow his story with a focus on his actions after receiving a female specimen as a gift. The book contains graphic descriptions of slaughter.
 This book was an addictive read, and genuinely made me think and reflect on many issues of society.

wow this is the most fucked up thing i’ve ever read. i almost DNFed at the start bc i didn’t think i could stomach it, i was very on guard and unsettled. if it was all gore, i definitely wouldn’t have made it. the ending… phew wow didn’t see that coming but it all makes sense now.

how the slaughterhouse is described and how the humans are referred is just like what happens to the animals that are bred for “food” - having seen footage of these practices, it was very very disturbing to imagine humans in their place.

i hope that readers can realize that the treatment of humans in this book is literally a reality today for nonhuman animals - pure pure horror and nothing you’d wish upon anyone.

Simply passing off this book as using cannibalism & graphic themes & descriptions for the sake of shock value is doing it a disservice.

This book explores government control, dehumanization, and the complicity of everyday people. With that being said, this book is not for everyone, there are graphic content & descriptions.
