Wow. This book is depressing. I watch depressing true crime docs for a living and this was tough to get through even for me. Very graphic sections of murder, cannibalism, and dehumanizing behaviors…this is one of the most nihilistic books I’ve ever read. I gave it a 3 because it is well written and the intentions of the book really resonated, but it was a challenge to get through because the content was just…a lot…like…A LOT.

Writing is extremely hard to follow. Written in 3rd person and I kept having to reread parts trying to understand what was going on or being referred to. The plot has potential but the overall story is not for me.

Honestly it was a beautiful read, but so incredibly dark. I'm already depressed by humanity as a whole, and this book was making it worse. The story is incredible, the writing is top notch, and the story itself is worth telling, but my brain isn't in a good place to process it right now. Maybe someday, but not right now.

This book pushes your mind to a dark world. Excellently written. Extremely dark.

A story unlike any other. A brutally simple and simply brutal tale. I wasn’t sure in the first half if it was doing anything for me, but it all comes around by the end—and it’s an end that’ll stay with me for some time.

an incredibly impactful book—i never want to read it again.

feels extremely cautionary and timely with the way social media has made us easily consumable to one another, but obviously exaggerated to a high degree. i read this book over a 4 hour chunk of time iirc, and i don’t think i’d recommend doing that lol.

this book will make you feel gross, but sometimes, i think we need that shock to the system to remind us of our humanity tbh!

every word of this book made me cringe and feel gross. blahhhh. knew i wouldn’t like it but was looking for something short so figured i would give it a try. really it’s my own fault, and maybe this book is for other people, but cannot express how much it is not for me.
