This feels like an attempt at a vegan propaganda. it’s raw and rough around the edges and the writing feels inconsistent at times. It can be thought provoking but mostly felt predictable and boring near the end as we watch him spiral into madness. I wish there could’ve been more of an insight on his internal demons and how he constantly deals with them internally rather than seeing him act it out on the people around him.

please check tws before reading!!

This book is pretty eye-opening and I can absolutely see how it would be disturbing to other people. As someone who has read and watched endless documentaries on the meat industry and how animals are treated, the cannibalism and human meat industry seemed rather realistic and not at all surprising (which doesn't mean that my stomach didn't twist while reading). The plot itself was clearly less important than the world building and personally I think that is okay for a dystopian novel. A quick and sick read that will stay with me and keep me vegetarian/vegan for sure.

also I read this in public and I wouldn't recommend that.

It was the most graphic book I've read so far. I with they talked about the transition more. Like how the world became what it is now. Overall, eventhough it was a short read, it was a very interesting and eye opening experience.

Normally I enjoy grotesque disgusting descriptive books but this was just pointless and insensible? Most of the scenes didn't add to the story and were just dragging. It felt like a short story stretched to fit a whole book. Also, there was some stuff included to make the twist believable but there was so much more against it.
If he didn't care for jasmine at all then why did he name her, treat her as a human and all that? He could have just raped her and kept her in the barn dirty till she gave birth if that was all he wanted. And the things that point to him not being the somewhat moral person as portrayed in most of the book can also be explained by the sense of helplessness prevalent through it like the puppy scene and the fact that he killed his dogs. So really there was no good foreshadowing and it was just there to add shock value.
. I liked the idea a lot and some of the things early on especially the commentary on humanity in general but the execution could have been much better.
