Reading 2021
Book 144: The Rabbit Hunter by Lars Kepler

Reading this book with Basic B's Guide and @readwithjamie for a buddy read.

This book is #6 in the Joona Linna series for the authors.

Synopsis: Detective Joona Linna is finishing out a sentence at Kumla prison for assaulting an officer in the course of his last investigation when he is summoned to a meeting with the Swedish Prime Minister. The Foreign Minister has been brutally murdered. There's a chance more political figures could be targeted. The police need Linna to find the killer and neutralize the threat, so he's granted a temporary release from prison. But when another murder occurs, Linna realizes he's dealing with something far more complex, and far more terrifying, than anyone imagined. As the body count grows, Linna begins to understand that he can't do this alone and he reaches out to Saga Bauer, the young Security Police detective, for help. Now, together, the two race against time to unravel the killer's intricate plan before he can take his ultimate revenge.

This is the second book in this series that I have read. Started with Sandman, skipped The Stalker, and now this book. I did not find it difficult to pick up and get back into the characters, though having some more backstory would have been good. The details behind why Joona is in jail at the beginning of the book were missing since I did not read the previous book. Definitely enjoyed this book more than Sandman and agree with some reviews that the book could have been shorter. I felt that way about Sandman as well. There is a lot of layering in of characters throughout the book, though I think maybe could cut some out especially since they are not central to the plot. Overall good installment in the series. Will read another, maybe not in the order written. My rating 4 ⭐.

Well this was intense and twisted like Kepler usually does it. Buuut it lacked a little bit.. although that ending was creepy as f.

You can read more of my reviews at my blog The Book Chick.

Joona Linna is back in one more of those intense and thrilling books where he is hunting a cold blooded killer out of the ordinary! Old secrets, new promises and a rabbit hunter is what he tries to unravel. And even though I really liked it and I like all the characters, I find that I don’t like this book as much as the others. The reason for that is probably that the whole police investigation alignment is not as prominent as usual and the side characters in the mystery has a much bigger part. It made the old characters fall a little flat and I missed them.

I wouldn’t say that it is a bad book but it is the weakest one in the series in my opinion. It is a little too long and slow in the middle. Some stuff didn’t make sense since the details were not fulfilling but I don’t think they were important for the plot itself so I can ignore it. It still has the same psychological depth, uncomfortable detailed descriptions as always which makes it easy to imagine what is happening and it is certainly terrifying. I did like the history and the old secrets twist but however I did not like the ending. It was a bit confusing but I hope I will get my answers in October when the 7th book in the series has release in Sweden. Will probably be some months before it has a release on English though.

This is the 6th one in the series and they really should be read in order. So you know. I think I have told you that before but one time to many can’t hurt.

Another great novel from Lars Kepler! A team of detectives are on the trail of a killer who is picking off people from his past one by one to exact revenge. I was kept guessing for a while as to the killer's identity, but even once I'd figured it out, the chase to stop him still kept me furiously turning pages.
