Almost embarrassed how much I loved this. This band was my life as a kid and I felt so many things.

This was a memoir of Mark Hoppus’ life, from his upbringing in Ridgecrest CA through his ride to fame as the founding member of blink-182. While parts of the story were interesting, informative, or sad, I never really felt like I “liked” the author as a person. Maybe it would be more fair to say I couldn’t relate to some of the situations he was in. I mainly picked up the book because I live in his hometown and it was exciting to see my small town reflected back in such a way. I ended up reading this in part in hardcover, but finishing the majority on audio.

This was exactly what I hoped and expected as a fan of blink since childhood—funny, irreverent, and silly, but also heartfelt, sincere, and deeply honest. You can’t help but root for Mark and the story of blink-182.
