Although I liked this one less than the first one of the series, it was still an enjoyable read.

The main couple wasn't really my thing though...

not a bad book but not as good as wolf's story. the story does seem a bit dated but it was still an enjoyable read.

I am a really big fan of Linda Howard but was introduced to her books later in her writing career which means I spent a lot of time trying to locate and glom through her back list. Some of the books I missed (mostly because they have been very hard to find in print) were the Mackenzie series. After being talked up by some reading buddies I was able to track down the series and am so excited to read through them. They each seem to hit those special buttons on almost all levels of why I love to read romance, and Mackenzie’s Mission is no exception.

Jose Mackenzie, son of Wolf and step-son of Mary Mackenzie, has spent his life chasing his dream to become the best fighter pilot in the Air Force. Joe is now a Colonel and heading up a team of test pilots on a new jet prototype. Caroline is an engineer working with a team to help develop the laser targeting system on the jet and has been called in to help assist in the field tests. There’s such an instant connection between Joe and Caroline that you can see the steam coming off the two of them. When trouble on base leads to an almost devastating crash, Joe has to investigate who would want to sabotage the program and who has the access. Caroline becomes the lead suspect but will their romance help them through the investigation?

I really loved to see Joe as a grown man since I loved him in Mackenzie Mountain as a teenager. I also got a kick out of where they were doing their flight testing because in my day job we do testing out there with the Air Force as well so it made it a very relatable story to me. Sadly, I’ve yet to meet my Joe Mackenzie. Great read and I’m so excited to read the rest of the series!

I LOVE this series and family. Just wish she would have written the stories of the other two sons.

Pretty ho-hum without anything to make you care all that much.

Joe's complete lack of trust followed with roaring alpha possessiveness was pretty ridiculous. And his backstory was pretty touching but the delivery was so abrupt and random. The whole ending was just rushed. And unbelievable.

This book was about Joe Mackenzie, who we met in Mackenzie's Mountain. It's no surprise to see that he has gone as far and as fast as he has. He is highly respected by his men. He is still very intense and very private with his emotions. When he meets Caroline he is instantly attracted to her. He uses the idea of protecting her from other men to stake a claim on her. Caroline is very smart, but inexperienced when it came to men. She also tended to be very direct, and told Joe that she was attracted to him. When things started going wrong with the Night Wing project, she was top of the suspect list. The culmination of the mystery was very good.

I really liked it. As with the first one I find it amusing how much things have changed since this was written. One of the things I like best is that Caroline was very real. She didn't play games and try to be coy. She knew what she wanted and went for it. I really like that trait in a person and in a book. Also I LOVE Joe!!
