I was so close to giving this a solid five stars but just couldn’t quite manage it. Leo and Scarlett had chemistry from page one, but ‘climax’ of the story didn’t really hit all that well.
As for the rest of the story, it was a great read. I read almost this entire book during a four-hour car ride and still finished it the next morning because I was enjoying it so much. The characters are well balanced and had individuality and voice based on their careers and interests which helped set them apart from other books. I also enjoyed that this book focused on characters outside of college.
Spoiler
They both have this coming to Jesús moment in wanting to be together and the story plateaus from there. We don’t see the ramifications of Leo’s big speech to the press and we don’t see Scarlett making up for her decision to give the relationship space as if she hadn’t just made Leo deal with a week of brutal ‘break up’ feelings and still having to see her dad at work every day. The rest of the book is a blur of fluff, which isn’t bad. I just wish it had more structure, like the rest of the story had led until then.As for the rest of the story, it was a great read.
