- I’ve missed her style of writing and the way she formats her books
- I’ve also missed her art
- I forgot just how AMAZING she is at writing romantic tension and banter and just ROMANCE
- I love their text messages
- The fact this is a double Romeo and Juliet retelling
- Just the subtlety of her writing and the story, she definitely the kind of writer that makes small connections to things and actually trusts her readers to figure it out instead of throwing it in our faces
- MY GOD does she know how to writer romance!!
- Olivie Blake is truly a master of her craft
- Like I said in my review of masters of death, she’s truly one of the VERY FEW authors that make me wanna start annotating me books because of how amazing she is and how every single thing in this story feels so intentional and connected to everything else.
Dislikes:
- I honestly don’t really like that they kissed so soon. It was a great scene but just to soon even though I guess it makes sense since one night was all it took for Romeo and Juliet
- As much as I love Olivie Blake and her books I do have to say that this one is a little predictable and not about the retelling part, that obviously is gonna follow a certain path but I’m talking about another thing that happens with the brothers in the first half
- The brothers all feel like fully fleshed out characters but the sisters are barely present at all until half way thru the book
Random thoughts:
- It’s definitely a fast paced book
- I think that this could’ve been two books. I still think that this definitely works as only one but I also think that she literally could’ve just ripped this book in half and have it be two books and it would’ve worked just as well maybe even a little bit better cuz she could’ve given more time to developing the relationship between the main characters (sorry I’m not trying to spoil anything) cuz like I said in my dislikes their romance happened a little too fast for me. However I do still think it works very well as only one book
- This one is more plot based than masters of death was

Likes:
- The way that it was the Juliet character that poisons her Romeo and than brings him back and then also, since it’s taking place in modern times Olivie could’ve very easily had Roman use a gun to kill Marsha but instead uses a sword since Juliet stabbed herself!! And then again when Dima kills her and then himself!!
- I really like the choice she made to not name any of the girls Juliet or a variation of that name and also how the retelling isn’t between Roman (even tho you would think it would cuz of his name) but instead it’s between his brothers and their love interests and he just ends up alone and was actually the villian the entire time
Dislikes:
- I feel like Roman being the one behind it all was kinda obvious probably cuz it’s a trope that gets done a quite a lot
- Also I love and respect Olivie Blake as a writer with my entire being but I feel like Roman complaining to Dima about being the second born and having to work for everything was just such an overused trope but also just not her best writing
- Also what exactly happened with their mom? I feel like her ending was very open ended and I’m not the kind of reader that likes open ended stories
Random thoughts:
- WHAT THE HELL?? Did Ivan just become Kochi??? That has got to the be most random thing ever!!
- Dima and Masha are definitely more of the Romeo and Juliet retelling than Lev and Sasha are like yeah don’t get me wrong Lev and Sasha still fit Romeo and Juliet just not as much as Dima and Masha, they’re story is more related to R+J then Lev and Sasha’s story is.

It’s as if Romeo and Juliet both came from Russian families who live in NY and happen to be witches. I enjoyed it because it’s more than a love story. It’s about the characters finding their independence and identities outside of what was forced upon them.
