This is one of those books I heard about on booktok that sounded so interesting, but then I read it and was kinda disappointed. It's not bad, but it's not as good as it was hyped up to be. Parts of it were very confusing (so much background lore is just straight up not there or halfway explained badly), the two MCs give you whiplash at times based on how they feel about each other, and parts feel rushed while others drag. I like the various fairytales/myths that were woven together to make this story, but it didn't quite stick the landing.

There’s nothing better than finding an author you just love, and Ella Fields is that for me. If I pick up one of her books, I’m guaranteed to eat it up.
While this book was a little overly complex (the Rumplestiltskin aspect was entirely unecessary) and the ending was a bit of chaos, the romance was exactly right and the savage king has my heart. Opal and Dade were a delight, young and dumb and stubborn in the way mc’s always seem to be, but genuinely likeable. I could’ve done with a less predictable end to Dade’s need for vengeance, or more emphasis on Opal’s ending, but I still enjoyed every bit of this book.

Not bad..
I'm torn between really liking this book and seeing all the flaws in it.
I felt like, while I was reading, that I was watching a video with two times the speed on it. Everything is being said but I can't see the details. Everything is rushing by. It was hard to focus. The writing was also weird. I'm not sure how to explain it but just the writing style was odd.
I enjoyed the story but I would have to re-read certain sentences to understand them. Also some details were lacking. Such as, when did she learn to do gold on her own? That really just popped out of nowhere.
She has all these powers and can't just leave to go somewhere else when captured by the humans?
Why are humans do hard to fight when they are weak compared to fae? It doesn't make sense.
I feel as though maybe this book should be a series in its itself so there could be more detail about what exactly is going on.
The random cursing is strange in this book as well. I think it would be perfectly fine to omit all of it. It's just unnecessary.
This needs some fine tuning or something. Its a nice thought of a story but played out wrong.

As soon as the MMC POV was reached I knew I couldn’t finish. The male narrator’s voice didn’t align with how I imagined the MMC to sound. It was almost comical. I wouldn’t have been able to take it seriously. He sounded like a higher-pitched, cheerful British man instead of how I think a brooding, sultry-sounding Wolf King would sound. Maybe I’ll read the book myself one day lol

This had so much potential and just didn't know what it wanted to do with itself. So many things flipped around, like the language. It started out with phrases like "she cursed" and then abruptly near the middle Fields starts throwing around the c word. If you're going to curse curse! If your not then don't, but please make up your mind and stick to it.
Opal as a character just didn't make a lot of sense. On the other hand, Dade was a wonderful character and much more thought out than all the others. Most of the parts of this book I actually liked were his scenes.
I thought it was picking up around the middle and some spicy scenes were almost good, but then it's like something was stopping the author from really getting into it.

Dnf at 30% for now. I failed to finish but I might get back to it one day.
The main issue was the world building which has left me completely confused. Not much is explained about it and it's hard to make assumptions about what's really going on because it's all very confusing. Are they in the fae world? Why are people at war and why is the ml trying to conquer everything?? What are humans doing in this world and why was the princess okay with being kept as a prisoner by them...? Everything is simply too confusing for me.
Honestly, a map of some sort would have been very useful for this book. It feels like either everything is too close together or everyone can fast travel in this world.
