This was my first Darcy Coats book, and let me just say, it was unhinged (in a good way)! I am a sucker for haunted house/ghost/paranormal stories, and this one had an incredibly fun twist - multiple, in fact.
The narration was excellent. the book was a bit slow at the start, but the latter two thirds really pick up steam, and the ending was really fun and unexpected. I loved the main character's development throughout the book. The author does an impressive job of building atmosphere and tension as the story builds. There were some repetitive descriptions throughout, but overall this built great tension, and the climactic scene found me literally shouting "WHAT THE HELL???"
If you like horror book with a paranormal twist, like haunted houses, or the idea of a haunted winery, then this is definitely something you'll enjoy. I look forward to reading more from Darcy Coates.

The Hull family legacy. I really enjoy Darcy Coates, she is one of my favorite authors, however, I gave this book a 4 star review as I felt this book was a bit drawn out. She keeps the mystery and suspense there, but a lot of drawn out information and it lacks the excitement to keep you drawn in. Once you get past that and the dark, creepy dead get inside the house the story moves along really fast and it's gripping. I had had a hard time putting it down as you feel what Margot is feeling and going through. Great book and I would recommend to anyone wanting a good spooky read for things that go bump in the night.

Gallows Hill is the sixth or seventh book that I have read by this author. I find them to be very cozy and I enjoy reading. Since I am used to her writing and plot devices, this felt very familiar. There were many times while I was reading it that I kept comparing it to other books or thinking to myself didn’t this happen in?
Parts in it did scare me specifically the ones with the puppets and the movie. If you know you know. I felt that it could’ve been shorter by about 75 pages but overall it was a good solid read.

I've been wanting to read Darcy Coates for awhile, and I was excited for the opportunity provided by NetGalley and the publisher to review this book. After reading Gallows Hill, I am definitely a Darcy Coates fan. The story was spooky, and Coates did an excellent job building the tension. Margot's tension was palpable when she was in the tunnels or hearing the warning bells ring in the house, and I loved the resolution at the end. Definitely plan on reading more by this author!
I do love this author's style. This one was so atmospheric.
Decent read! I did have to turn up the narration speed a bit to get through it, but the story kept me invested and the spooky parts were thoroughly creepy to me.
