This was MUCH better than the other Coates book I read (Ashburn House,) but still some issues with the writing. Certain sentences are strangely phrased. And again, too much happens at the end. But it was pretty creepy and overall enjoyable for spooky season.

It is no secret that Darcy Coates has become one of my all-time favorite authors. This book just continues to show why. Although there is plenty of creepiness involved, the story is much more than that. I loved how easy it was to connect to Margot's story early on and how she struggled with inheriting the family house and business after being sent away as a child. I also loved the slow burn of how we were learning about the history of the house and family without realizing that we were being led into something far more sinister.
Gallows Hill was fantastic. Super spooky and creepy and intense, and the ending was very satisfying. Darcy Coates did a great job of weaving the story together even if the MC showed a very low sense of self preservation.
This would be an excellent cold November read and I definitely recommend it.
