Well written book. However I feel there is an issue with the barrels used for the wine for that long. The wood would have rotten and made the wine taste bad. Not only the wood but if the bodies were decaying in the barrels it should have popped up in tests on the wine and even people finding the decaying taste in their wine. That is really the only thing wrong with the story.

A five star horror read!! Darcy Coates is quickly becoming a favourite author for me. This is the third book I've read and every time I know to expect high quality content and I get it.
Darcy write atmosphere insanely well. The settings of all her books are creepy and are almost like an added POV to the story. And gallows hill was no different. From the first 30 pages of this book I was like "what creepy stuff is really going on here" and that feeling didn't leave me until the last page of the book.
The last half of this story was "un put down able" I had to keep reading because I had to get the answers we had all been searching for.
The characters in this one were her best I've read so far. Because of the backstory they were given. We were given these real characters we could feel for. I loved it. I was rooting for them the entire time.
There was a slight logic issue for me around the 50% mark BUT it was actually confronted later on in the story. So Wooop wooop. Logic made sense in the end!
Soooooooo..
I'm here to say that if you want a creepy setting (uhm a winery is so creepy) , strong characters, and a very interesting plot/mystery. READ THIS

4.5 stars!
Only reason it isn’t 5 is because it turned into a monster book when I thought it was paranormal. This is the second book I’ve read by Darcy Coates and I guess she just likes writing monster books. The read was really good, and I the ending was great!

Not the best Darcy Coates book and not really scary but it was pretty tense and only slightly fell apart at the end.
It feels like this author uses a very distinct recipe for each of her books and I had just read one before that I wasn't too thrilled with. The characters are always real extra jumpy and suspicious immediately before anything even pops off and it feels contrived to me. I may just not be in the mood for this type of book right now also so I might come back to it but I just did not feel like making myself finish it I was not into it whatsoever I kept finding myself rolling my eyes and huffing and puffing so I thought let's move on. I'm also reading two very long books right now and I just need an a fun thing that I'm really enjoying to read in between those books when I hit a low with how long these other books are I need to have fun and this was not doing that for me.

5⭐️ and utterly terrifying! This is the book that makes you think twice about reading this book alone or in the dark.
This is a perfect ghost story with more then just ghosts. This book will make you rethink that bottle of wine.
