This book is my number 1# of the year!

This book made me feel 100 different things but in the best way. The story follows Michigan who’s women’s hockey team get cut so she try’s out for the men’s team.

I loved Michigan and her strong fierce attitude. She was the feminist character I was rooting for throughout the book. At times this was a hard read as this book deals with some adult themes of sexual assault and sexist language. Something I do not doubt occurs in the sports world. At times I had to put the book down to take In what was happening. Michigan felt like a very real person like someone I would know and that is what is so fantastic about this book it felt so real in the best and worst way.

But every step I was yelling at my book praying she would come through and in the end she did, this book has stayed with me and I’ll be thinking about it in months to come.

I did not understand the hockey aspect of this book at all but that's irrelevant as it's still a good book.

The story is strong on female characters and confronts the issue of bullying and the daily struggle of putting with some men being d**** on a regular basis.

I liked that book gave some justification for Daniel being the way he is but it's practically a one-liner in a conversation. There is no real sympathy for him.

This book was a difficult and heartbreaking read. The message in this book is worthy of five stars, but I feel like some of the execution just wasn't five stars. This is a horrible, ugly story about a girl, Michigan, who tries out at makes the boys hockey team at her school. What happens after is months of physical and emotional violence and assaults by some members of the hockey team. Michigan is left not knowing how or who she can turn to. It truly broke my heart, and even more, it is something that happens too often in the sporting community.

The things Michigan went through were terrible, angering and frustrating. I did however feel that the characters were just not as developed as they could be. Michigan was a good character, but her personality could have been developed more. Even the side characters we got to know were a little underdeveloped and one-dimensional. I also found the romance, and even the need for romance in this book to be a little insta-love and forced.

This book has a good message though. I think it would be a good read for girls, particularly in sports, so they can read stories of overcoming some of the troubles that can exist within it. This was a good debut novel and I will check out what the author writes in the future!

I really enjoyed this book. I don't usually like sport-related books but I loved how the main character despite everything forced herself onto the team and proved herself a true team member. I feel like a lot of girls can relate to this book.
