I didn't like the codependency seen in both main characters or the manipulation and possessive self destructive actions.

Have you ever been so frustrated with a book you had to put it down and cool off? And not because it was riddled with errors or poorly written - because you were so incredibly mad at the characters. Characters mired in angst as a couple and individually. It was need to throw things level of frustrating. Want to scream at two people who aren't even real to get their sh*t together, frustrating. It was the most slow burn happily for now that I've ever read.

I don't mean slow burn to the 'spice' either. That's hot and heavy, there to make you wonder how they're so sh*t at communicating when they can do that so fluently.

Domestic Violence does feature in this book. And DV always hits me hard. Abusive parent and the parent who looks the other way - where one knows they always have the power. Where they know they only have to say one, ONE, word to make you topple - those people and characters make me want to scream. So the catharis that Aubrey felt facing her father was euphoric and the crash when he ripped the rug from under her again was equally infuriating.

Part of me wishes we had more of Jax's pov, to make things on his side a little more clear cut and soften the punches as they hit. Then again, I realky just wanted to shake that man and ask him how he thought this was a good idea.

10/10 spice scene. But the emotional moments in between are heavy.

Two next door neighbors share a tumultuous situation, fall in love, separate, and see if they can try again....

While I wanted to love this, I feel that consent was rather vague at times and I'm not a fan of that.

So, this terribly abused girl escapes her abusive home in a highly traumatic way, then gets with a guy who is as equally as manipulative, possessive, and provoking as her father, but he's hot so it's fine? Through most of the scenes with them together I was either rolling my eyes or making a vaguely disgusted face

The big secret that is the reason for the ongoing tension with them also wasn't that big of a deal?
