Funny, a little antisemitic - which was a bit random - but a product of its time I suppose.
On topic however, it is a good use of dark satirical themes to juxtapose a harsh reality of the times political climate, thought provoking read. Especially when considering how taboo these ideas are still today.

satire about child poverty. i mean it made its points and it wasn't wrong about the callousness of the rich and of a society allowing people to live in such conditions that they are stuck in generational poverty. times must have been very grim.

I remember the first time I read this was in high school English. The teacher just handed it out and gave us no context, no mention that the lesson was on satire. We took turns reading through it; and as we progressed, the gasping and groaning commenced.

Truly one of the few highlights of secondary school!
