My first Amy Tan novel and further proof she’s a master of the mother-daughter dynamic. Im really glad I picked this one up, it was an interesting representation of generational trauma and cycles of relationships. Cried a few times reading this one and then had to go see my mom

Another detailed, absorbing, layered book by one of my favorite authors. My only quibble with this one is the lack of a through line in the mother's story. We meet her as a girl and as an elderly woman but only see her middle years through her daughter's eyes. During those missing years the character changed quite a bit. It would have been nice to see that fleshed out more.

I just finished reading The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan. I just feel that this story was really beautiful. It's the story of a mother's past in China and her current relationship with her daughter. It is so touching to watch the daughter learn about her mother's past and come to understand where her mother came from and to forgive her mother's faults. And, it brings the two women together. In the end, I think it is a very touching story of forgiveness. I really loved it!

Tan is the master of mother - daughter guilt.

Ruth is part of the sandwich generation, trying to balance her live-in boyfriend and his daughters along with her increasingly more forgetful mother and a demanding job.

This was my first Amy Tan book and I found it to be riveting. I found Ruth's story much easier to follow. LuLung had a really difficult life and I found myself depressed.

Returning to an Amy Tan back after many years of not reading her was like picking back up with an old friend who had a dark and twisty past that I couldn’t put down. I very much enjoyed the Bonesetter’s Daughter and feeling a bit too close to the stage of life the daughter was in towards the end of the book.
