I hadn't realized this part of a loose trilogy so I'd like to come back to this once I've read the other 2 parts.

My thoughts at this time however; I thought this was a fine read! The art is lovely, the brush textures, colors and patterns are all really really nice. I really liked learning about all the characters and felt them to all be realistic. My lack of knowledge of Swedish politics had most of this go over my head but I still found it interesting regardless, I appreciate the chance to peek into a life so different than mine.

Picked this up in the library, didn't realise it was the third in a trilogy. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it as a standalone. Reading somebody else's review actually helped me to understand and appreciate the ending which made me enjoy the book more (small brain energy here). The reading experience was good because the atmosphere was spot on. I found the sort-of-abusive cult-like political group interesting because it's how I imagine those things can easily go. It all (the affair, the son's experience and reaction to it, the humdrum of marriage to captain average, the child's reactions to her mum's actions) felt very believable.
