2.5/5 - I didn’t love this, unfortunately. I like to think of myself as pretty well-read, but it’s clear that Ms. Fadiman and I are reading completely different books. Honestly, there were only a few books/authors mentioned in these pages that I was familiar with. Though I did get an inordinate amount of joy knowing what “grimoire” meant when no one in her family did (admittedly, I probably learned that word from TV, but whatever). I love reading—it’s my main hobby for sure. But even so, I felt like I had a hard time relating to most of the essays. I obviously get joy from reading for a completely different reason than she does, and that’s okay.

Clever, merry and pretentious.

This is a delightful essay collection, and now I want to read more of her work!

A book of essays about books. Most were funny or cute, a few were a little boring. I especially liked the essay about descriptions of food in literature making you hungry. It's a quick read and worth it if you like to read about reading.
