Close the deal...or you re history. The stakes couldn t be higher for four desperate Chicago real-estate salesmen: close the deal or lose your job. David Mamet s famously profanity-laden screenplay based on his own Pulitzer Prize-winning play ferociously nails the dog-eat-dog world where lies, flattery, threats, theft and bribery rule supreme as the four salesman scrabble to thrash the opposition and keep their livelihoods. But who will survive? Will it be top closer Ricky Roma? Has-been Shelley The Machine Levene? Timid no-hoper George Aaronow? Big-mouth Dave Moss?

Mamet is one of my favorite playwrights, I'm excited to work through more of his catalog.

This was such a quick read!
I read it in around 1-2 hours and overall it was fairly enjoyable :)

I'm looking forward to watching the film with my dad because I think watching this performed (as it's supposed to be) will definitely make the characters feel more fleshed out!

Was a quick enjoyable read, but nothing special!

Essential Mamet, though I think the film version with the famous Alec Baldwin monologue is actually an improvement on the original.

wow. Move over House of Leaves! This is the worst thing I’ve read all year.

Borderline nonsensical. It has 6 characters that all have the same personality and talk/swear as if they’re 6th graders who learned to curse for the first time. I have never read such poorly written characters in a Pulitzer Prize winner before and wow.

I’m actually convinced this is proof that white men get to be shit and get awards for it because there is no fucking way there were any other entries for the year this was written. I refuse to believe this was the “best” of anything besides maybe the “best” worst play of all time.

The writing is so staggered and ellipses get ABUSED in this play for no reason. It definitely does read like someone a cishet white man would write to look prophetic/deep. I can not name a single character/moment/anything that was in any way well written.

I couldn’t even tell you what plot there was because it was just *that* badly written. I could at least give you a plot overview for House of Leaves.

Do you wanna read one of the worst plays of all time? Here you go! By the end of this you’ll be begging someone to read you Shakespeare instead!

GAG.

I don't think any character ACTUALLY has a complete thought throughout this entire play...
