Very enjoyable read - the Mametspeak technique really makes the lines fly by. Despite some questionable lines about Indian-Americans and such, (and it's Mamet, what do you expect?,) I found the raunchiness of the language fit the severity of the situations. A group of very well-crafted characters, especially the cunning Ricky Roma and the tragic Shelly "The Machine" Levene. Overall I don't think I liked this one quite as much as I did Oleanna (which will always hold a special place in my heart,) but it is clearly a masterpiece of contemporary American drama.

Nothing starts off a new year like profanity-laden insults. I read David Mamet's play Glengarry Glen Ross, which obviously also became a movie. It was a spontaneous pick-up from a recent trip to my local used bookstore.

Anger, fear, and frustration pulsate from the dialogue. Everyone is constantly and publicly aware of their standing within the real estate office, with the board reminding them of their status. Status improvement essentially means the ability to sell plots of junky Florida land to unsuspecting people. Reading it might actually make you feel a little better about yourself.

In the movie, Mamet added a character, Blake, played with Alec Baldwin. An inspired choice:

I'm not really a fan of reading plays.. However, this play was entertaining and sometimes funny. I liked the use of language, it definitely adds something to the play.

Mamet’s writing is just phenomenal

I read this play, and then got to see it performed. It is about a group of shady real estate agents who are supposed to be selling high value real estate in Florida, which is in reality swamp land.
