Goodbye, Eri

Tatsuki Fujimoto

4.27 AVERAGE

strange and melancholy --Yuta is asked to by his mother to film her up to and including her death --after the film he makes for school is panned and mocked her meets a girl Eri who encourages him to watch/study movies and then eventually when she reveals she is dying she asks him to film her death since he wasn;t able to film his mother in the end.
The vampire thing at the end was a but forced but I did like the tie in with the explosion like in his motehr's film --catarsis for him to move on I guess?

spoilers!

something about tatsuki fujimoto’s stories always feel so off-putting to me, not in a good way. at first this wasn’t bad, i felt like while yeah, eri was pretentious and annoying and literally everyone else was insanely shallow (even for a one-shot manga!), it was somewhat meaningful. suddenly, eri comes back and i’m just left confused and a little irked. why have this whole build up to bring her back? i don’t get it, maybe it’s something deeper and i don’t have the literacy to understand it, but it just annoyed me towards the end.
i went into this book with a weird mixed mood anyways (since i really really hated chainsaw man, and felt like it was meaningless AND had a shit plot (in myyyy opinion)…), but i also feel like i’m just not into this kind of story. it just felt redundant towards the end. or maybe i’m biased against this mangaka’s work. i don’t know, i hated this anyway lol.

Haha funny looking book with pictures make my heart sad

Who you were and how you’re remembered don’t always have to be the same thing. I got some Life of Pi vibes from this short and sweet read. While it breezes by, it’s very poignant in the questions it raises on how we choose to deal with death and how we memorialize those who are lost.
