This was a hard book to get through. It is incredibly detailed; too much so in my opinion. The writing leaves nothing to the imagination, and I didn't love the storyline either.

More like a 3.8/5

Took me a while to finish this book.
Loved Pamuk's writing but at one point, the book became to repetitive. Though this was a wonderfully vivid portrait of Istanbul, as a love story, it failed to impress me.

It's a story about a man and his young cousin. Their relationship is problematic, but never because they are related.

He's obsessed with her. He collects over 4000 cigarette stubs that have 'touched her lips' alongside other knick-knacks, even panties ! and makes a 'museum' of his obsession and kleptomania.

He's in love. Except his love follows a VERY brief affair while he's engaged.
I never wanna call someone's feelings unfounded, but I feel his were.

To be honest, this book kinda went on...and on... and on.. I skimmed through the whole thing. It didn't feel like there was a point to the story. If there was, I didn't get it... :P

This novel started out a beautifully told story of obsessive love, but over 500+ pages, it (appropriately?) became a very tedious story of obsessive love. The beginning and end were enjoyable, but the middle was somewhat painful to get through.

I would have given it one more star if not for the ending (not the last page but the way the main thread unravelled).

I started reading Museum of Innocence in anticipation of a trip to Istanbul and wanted to love it, but it just didn't happen.
