oh man so campy and dated... a victim of it's own success I guess, you really have to imagine a world where this seems groundbreaking and not ubiquitously influential to understand why it was so popular and had such an impact.

I desperately want to know more Spider-Man lore apart from the movies (and PS4 game) and this seemed like a good place to start. It’s a good primer but the old narrative style of comic books gets a little tiresome after a while. Still, I’m glad I read it!

Early Spider-Man really is Steve Ditko's angry loner as this Peter Parker seethes with rage and barely contains violent reprisal against his bullies.

Charming. Like most comics from this era, even when they're well done the are clad in a wrap of silliness, and that's definitely true here. But there's something DELIGHTFUL there as well, a rambunctousness we definitely don't see anymore. I feels like it felt to draw comics, at the age of seven, ideas scrambling out of your head so fast you can barely get the story out, let alone make sense, but how, surprisingly, when you finished there was some fresh masterpiece of wonder. These issues are like that, building not so much an over-arching narrative but a frenetic populating of a mad universe centered around a cocky teenaged daredevil. It's neat. It feels good to be awed again.

Classic Spider man is...classic. Maybe a little wordy, but how can you resist the goofy charm of Peter Parker and his alter ego?

I am usually disappointed when I reread the superhero stories I loved as a kid. I had a great time reading these earliest Spider-Man comics. They are super corny in a way that is embarrassingly appealing to me.
