"Birth rights cannot be changed. Hearts are forever scarred by our true nature"

Little bit of a slow start, but very interesting plot. Almost wish this would have been a duology. Loved the second half, but it felt very rushed. I would have liked to see more and have the ending spread out a little.

A deadly siren and a pirate Prince made for a really fun combination. I’m a huge fan of pirate books and this didn’t disappoint on that end. Wouldn’t have minded a little more time spent on the ship though. Overall I enjoyed this. If you’re looking for a quick fantasy read this will do the trick.

This was PAINFUL to get through . The pacing was off, the characters were so STUPID at points and I hated the writing. The story it self was so boring and nothing happened until the last third of the book. World building was done in painfully long infodumps and wasn't really useful for the story. Do I really need to know about the relations of kingdoms that have basically no importance in the book?? No really. If you want to have a big elaborate world at least give me a map so I have at least some clue about what's going on.

2.5/3⭐️
It was a really cute story. Of course the villains are a little too disney coded for my liking but overall really enjoyed it.

A great, dark twist on The Little Mermaid! I loved the different points of view - it's not every day we read the thoughts of a siren. Highly recommend!

Enemies to lovers. ✔️
FMC is the morally grey character. ✔️
Hints of The Little Mermaid but darker and WAY MORE interesting. ✔️

Lira is a siren princess who pissed off her mom (who is a total wench) and must now steal the heart of Prince Elian, The Siren Killer, to get her find back. As she spends time among the humans she starts to wonder if their deadly war is really the best way forward; if peace can be found between their people and the Prince she’s started to care for.

YA Fiction. No spice. A grand sea adventure. LOVED IT.

This was such a fun book! I love that it was a standalone fantasy novel, that feels like something rare in all the series that are piling up on my tbr. This book was a fun twist on the little mermaid fairytale. Lira is a cruel siren princess known throughout the hundred kingdoms as the Princes Bane for all the prince's she has killed. I loved how vicious she could be. Lira is not a typical heroine, she has a very dark side thanks to her mother the Sea Queen. Elian is basically my dream hero. He's a prince but hates the responsibility that comes with that title. He's much more at home on his siren hunting pirate ship the Saad. He plays the part of rogue and prince charming in perfect harmony. I loved all the banter between Lira and Elian, they were some of my favorite moments of the book. The side characters were equally delightful, Elian's crew especially.

The world of this novel was super interesting. There are a hundred different kingdoms and each of them has a kind of specialty. Midas Elian's kingdom is one of the most powerful and is known for all its gold. There's a kingdom of love, and one of warriors, a land of thieves, a kingdom that specializes in innovation and technology. There's also Lira's home the Diavolos Sea, the location of which is unknown to all of the human kingdoms. Overall I just loved this fun, fast-paced read!

I could never get into this one. I made it about 150 pages in, but didn't get hooked.

This book is a vibe. Listen, I don’t rate books on how good they are(although, I usually rate how awful they are- looking at you Cruel Prince) I rate them on how I feel, how much I enjoyed reading it.

I mean, it was a dark little mermaid(which is my favorite OG Disney movie) retelling that was a lot of fun and I ended the book with a big grin on my face.

Is it perfect? No, It’s not. Did I love every minute of it? YES, yes I did. So 4 out of 5 stars because I really liked this book and enjoyed reading it and am glad that I bought it second had cause it’s pretty book.

{Aub, if you’re reading this, I don’t think it’s your jam, and Stef, not yours either}

“I have a heart for every year I’ve been alive.”

Tell me that’s not the coolest opening line! Y’all, this book! All I can say is what took me so long to read this? Ok, ok, that’s not really all I can say! This retelling is a wonderful twist on the Little Mermaid and I enjoyed it so much!

Lira is a siren, and sirens take the heart of a human every year on their birthday, but Lira doesn’t take just any human heart. No, she sets her sights much higher. She will only take the heart of a prince. And after seventeen years, she has earned the title of the Prince’s Bane.

Elian is a prince, heir to the kingdom of Midas. But he’s not content to sit around waiting to inherit the throne from his father. Elian is also a pirate. On a mission to rid the world of sirens. Specifically, the siren known as the Prince’s Bane.

This tale is beautifully written, filled with lovely descriptions and wonderful world building. I thought that Lira’s character arc was phenomenal, and this story features the enemies to lovers trope (which is one of my personal favorites). Oh, what I wouldn’t give for a sequel to this one!
