This was a family read with my 16-year-old son and my 50-something-year-old husband. It can be hard to find an appropriate book that appeals to all three of us.
It turned out to be a great choice for our family. And, happily, not just for the video game aficionados. I happened to like it too and I am NOT a gamer (unless you count wordle, spelling bee, and the other puzzle games on the NYT website). Nor do I know anything about the history of video games or anything about video game design. My two gamers were happy to fill in the blanks when I did not understand a reference.
But video game appreciation is just one component of the book. There are many layers to this book and various themes of friendship/love, success/failure, death/life, violence/rebirth, signs/paths, humanity/inhumanity, sacrifice/commitment, etc. I don't think the word "soulmates" was ever used but, to me, it was about that too.
The book is exceptionally well-written, creative, and original, including a BEAUTY-of-a-chapter written entirely in the second person, and another chapter written in an MMORPG format. Mind you, these are NOT just exercises in creative writing -- they truly push the story forward and develop the characters in meaningful ways.
I've never read anything like this. A true original. Love, love, loved it!

Wow this book was a favourite for a lot of instagrammers and there was a lot of hype over this book but I have to say I really don"t get the hype. The overall story was alright, but I felt the book was very slow moving and boring to be honest.

The book was okay but the ending left much to be desired. It was hard for me to get into this book but once I did I needed to know how it ended. So I was a bit disappointed with how this book ended.

I’m generally wary of bestsellers because I find they don’t live up to the hype (at least in my opinion.) No, truly, often they’re flawed in some major way, (Oh, my god, the whole world could see that twist coming) but nobody cares because the book hits their trigger point, or it feeds their gluttonous soul that just wants to stuff the equivalent of another bag of oversalted, one dimensional, potato chips down their maw.
Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow held my attention throughout. There was one plot point where I thought, “Well, they had to get that character out of the way and they came up with that solution just before falling asleep one night,” but damn, I liked the characters. And I liked what they were doing. And I liked the thought and imagination that was put into what they were making.
And, despite the obvious late night plot doctoring in the middle of the book, the ending came through. It came through in a real and emotional way that made me satisfied. So. I learned about gaming, especially gaming in the nineties and early oughts, and came to love Sam and Sadie and Marx, and Zoe, and, not Dov. But I loved the parents and grandparents that kept appearing in the story.
So, I heartily recommend this bestseller despite it being, well, you know, a bestseller.

This was an amazing book, it is so very REAL and very little comes easy, as in life. It’s a testament to appreciating the people in your life when they are there, and that each of us is an individual making our own best decisions. It’s so good.

Another of my favorites for 2023. Well written and great pace. I heard there was some controversy with the author, but I dont know about any of that as of yet.
