the book eluded to the damning evidence of why he had to be the killer 3 times in 50 pages and that annoyed me. Also she knew the weed would make her violent while she slept and still smoked it???? Dumb.

1.5. Had a lot of potential. Def a fast-paced read. Disjointed execution, ridiculous ending caused by annoying af friends. Seriously the friends and side characters are the worst. Not over how one character said "yeah but what i face on twitter is worse" like um?? Just have empathy instead of trying to one-up someone.

Oh and good reporters shouldn't bribe. Alex did. So she's just a true crime fan and wannabe reporter with no journalistic ethics.

Ok this was a fun twisty ride that I read in a day!! Because I couldn’t put it down!!

Alex is as an intern for Crimeline in NYC she is determined to find a story that will help her move up in the company/her career. She’s chosen her true crime obsession, a deep dive into the murder that happened 10 years ago. Eric Myers was found guilty and is currently serving his sentence in prison for the gruesome 666 murder. Alex’s idea for the story is to dig deeper and determine if there is any possibility of Eric being innocent. In present day and it’s December, Alex’s best friends are surprising her with renting the actual cabin where the murder took place, It’s in the Catskill mountains the serial killer stabbed his victim and then wrote 666 on the walls in her blood! This is for her bachelorette party. What starts as fun-spooky night soon turns into a nightmare. When Alex wakes up to a bloody cabin and her friends missing, no idea what happened, Alex worries the decade-old murder has come back to haunt them and she is the one to blame. Her recent prison interview with the 666 Killer seems to have stirred up past demons, throwing her friends into danger. The prisoner has always maintained his innocence, claiming the “real killer” was still out there.
Honestly don’t see that ending coming, I was glued to the story I couldn’t put it down!!

I listened to the audio version of this book and I just want to know who decided to hire a narrator that did such horrible accents. One of the main characters is Australian and she BUTCHERED his accent. It was so distracting that sometimes I had to go back and listen again because I missed what was going on. There was also a Long Island accent at one point that was equally as awful.

Also, there were online conversations that were a little hard to follow in audio version, so I think this would have been better as a physical read. That isn't saying much though, because the story wasn't great either.

I loved the idea of the "did he or didn't he" with the man arrested for the 666 killings. I could have seen it going either way, so I was on board. Other than that, the only other thing I liked was the cover.

The entire ending was so ridiculous. I can't really say much without spoilers; even talking around the spoilers will give some stuff away. It was so over the top and dramatic and some of it was super predictable.

Overall, I feel cheated. Thanks to NetGalley and High Bridge Audio for the ARC.

*****I received this free audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I wanted to like this book. It had potential to be really good. However the writing seemed to shove everything together and it felt like the author tried to hard to include more than was needed. I think the end helped the story. Perhaps if it was a bit paired down getting there maybe it would have been better. As it is now was a disappointment

Okay it's like a normal not super amazing but fine domestic thriller but
SpoilerI cannot get past the protagonist's shitty ass friends I'm sorry what the fuck also her boyfriend just letting them do that it literally all rests on the entire plot just being one giant rickroll like NAUR BABE GET BETTER FRIENDS
dark tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

I liked the concept and the twist. But man were there literally no consequences. It was set up to be a good storyline but it was not executed well.

It was totally unrealistic and had me questioning the point of writing such a plot if it was not going to be followed through.

Alex has a career she loves working in true crime stories, she is getting married and she has the opportunity to interview the famous 666 Serial Killer. What could be better? Her friends decide to give her a bachelorette party with a theme to match her obsession with the famous case. Of course, the perfect location for said party is none other than a hunting lodge where he once stabbed one of his victims and wrote 666 on the walls in blood. Unfortunately, Alex wakes up covered in blood and her friends are nowhere to be found. The cabin is snowed in, she is unable to find her phone, the car won't start and she needs to figure out a way to find and save her friends as soon as possible.

First things first, let me just get this out there. I was given a free advanced copy of the book before publication. Based on that fact, I'm hoping the book still has some proofing and editing that will be done before publication. Otherwise, there are a lot of areas where the formatting is wonky. As in new chapters starting in the middle of pages, words strung together with spacing missing, and several times when the title of the book is just randomly in the middle of a paragraph. So as long as that is fixed, it should be fine.

Now as for the book itself, the premise is really good, although I would not really say it was a thriller at any point. Or maybe I just read too many thrillers and need more to get my heart racing. For me, I figured out the first twist pretty early on. (Although the person sending notes/calls/flowers was a surprise) The final twist was more of a surprise based on where the story had been going. The story does go back and forth between the party weekend and her investigation into the serial killer in prior weeks. Some parts of the story do seem to drag, but it is a fast read that can be finished in a day if you are so inclined.

 Wow.

This book is the definition of a popcorn thriller. If you are a Freida fan, you will likely enjoy this twisty thriller. Is this the best book ever written? No, but neither are Freida's books. It was at least creative, bingeable, and the last 75 pages or so were unpredictable and exciting. I honestly couldn't put it down and felt engaged for most of the time.

Alex's inner monologue was repetitive at times, and her friends are literally the WORST. Some parts of the ending make little to no sense. This is all plot driven, so you will not find much depth here.

Overall I had a decent time and I don't regret my time reading it. I think I need something slower paced next to recover from this roller coaster...
