i wasn’t sure how to rate this books, because it was very entertaining and it made me feel different emotions, but there are questionable moments.

action-wise? it’s kresley cole’s one of the best. she built so much tension before the “great escape” and delivered that scenes so good with many different points of view and their different battles. i really liked that aspect of the story, it made me go on and on reading.

but romance-wise? it wasn’t the best and also wasn’t my favorite thing. i’m not into dark romances, so some dark aspects of their relationship rubbed me the wrong way. other things are just objectively problematic (like aiden meeting regin when she was twelve????)

i still liked their relationship, because kresley cole somehow can make me enjoy the tropes i usually don’t like. but it wasn’t my favorite. she was building a lot of tension with their relationship as well, but the resolution felt a bit weak.

i also couldn’t understand why regin fell in love with declan, but couldn’t fall in love with aiden, if she really hadn’t have time to connect with declan, talk NORMALLY etc. there wasn’t much developed with declan and regin, just something clicked they started behaving super in love.

so for me it was a lot of build up but the climax of the story and its resolution felt much weaker.

I really enjoyed the set up for this book: a reincarnated MMC who hates all lore kind and a FMC with absolutely no filter or diplomacy skills. Regin has been a hard character for me to fully invest in, but after Lucia’s book, I was fully on board with her getting a HEA.
The initial meeting between the MCs was… cringy and almost made me put the book down. It was sooo close to being pedo-ish. I have a hard time with someone recognizing their mate in a 12 year old when they are 30. Gave me Jacob from Twilight vibes.

The facility was so hard to read about, especially since you know what is coming from reading the previous book. You know what Regin is going to go through and it makes it hard to keep an open mind to the MMC at all.
He is the definition of a man with a dark and tortured past - indoctrinated into a cult of humans that hate lore beings after losing his family and suppressing the things that make him different. Without the indoctrination, it would have been harder to invest in him.

The falling in love part was a bit fast for me. For all the shit he pulled and the stuff he needed to work through, it was hard for me to be like “yeah they genuinely love each other” when things progressed. That is why I took off one star. He needed more redemption and probably a bit more grovel.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: torture, medical experimentation, Noncon/dubcon, gore, death/grief, captivity, kidnapping, murder

Wow. After reading the previous novel, I already didn't like Declan. The first half of this book is a major battle of wills between him and Regin. in the end, he was the one who had to reassure her .not the other way around. I adore this series. The world, the characters, how they all entwine...very fun reading

All I’m gonna say, this book is perfection and My Tears Ricochet by Taylor Swift was written specifically for Regin and Declan.

This one had a bit of a twist with the male being the mortal, but still too much of the same old stuff.
